Printable Cryptograms

Free cryptograms made for paper. The coded text is set in large, clear capitals with a box beneath every letter for your pencil, starter hints are printed above it, and you can choose one, two or four puzzles per page. A separate answer page stays hidden until you want it.

What is on the printed page

  • Title, difficulty and the puzzle ID, so you can find it again.
  • The coded text in large capitals, with a box under every letter.
  • Word breaks and punctuation exactly as they are, so word shapes help.
  • Starter hints (a code letter and the letter it stands for), when the level has them.
  • An optional letter frequency table.
  • A “what am I?” bonus line on riddle cryptograms.
  • brainteaserclub.com at the foot of every puzzle.

How to print

  1. Open a puzzle and switch to the Print sheet tab.
  2. Choose 1, 2 or 4 puzzles per page, and tick the frequency table if you want it.
  3. Press Print (or Ctrl/Cmd + P). In Chrome and Safari leave scale at 100% or Default.
  4. Need the answers? Use “Show answer” or the printable answer page.

Open any cryptogram, choose the Print sheet tab, pick 1, 2 or 4 puzzles per page and press Print (or Ctrl/Cmd + P). Leave scale at 100% or Default. Choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog if you want a file instead of paper.

Yes. The layout is sized in millimetres inside 12 mm margins, which leaves at least 186 × 255 mm, so it fits both A4 and Letter. Long puzzles automatically use smaller boxes, and layouts that would be too cramped are greyed out.

Every puzzle has a printable answer page that is hidden by default: open it from the puzzle page, or use “Show answer” to print it after the puzzle on its own page.

Yes. Tick “Include a letter frequency table on the printout” on the print tab. It lists how often each code letter appears, which helps beginners and children get started.

No. It is black on white with no menus, ads or backgrounds. Starter-hint boxes are a light grey so they stand out, and the page ends with a small brainteaserclub.com line.
