Hard Extra Large Printable Mazes

30 free hard 40 × 40 mazes for teens and adults, and kids who love a challenge. A long, winding route surrounded by decoys.

Hard mazes carve a long winding route first, then grow dozens of short dead-end branches right beside it so the wrong turns look as good as the right one. Every hard maze is measured and rejected unless its route is long and crowded with decoys.

About hard extra large mazes

What they are

Hard extra-large mazes are the toughest on Brain Teaser Club: a 40 × 40 grid, a very long route and decoy branches crowding every stretch of it. Allow an hour or more, and expect to backtrack more than once before you reach the exit.

How to play

Draw one line from entrance to exit through open corridors only. The route is very long and every stretch is flanked by decoys, so slow, careful tracing beats speed.

Tips

Work from both ends, mark dead ends ruthlessly and look for the long dividing walls with a single gap. Some solvers lightly shade obvious dead-end regions before drawing anything; it can remove half the maze in five minutes.

Who they suit

These are built for adult maze enthusiasts and dedicated teenagers. They make a memorable challenge for puzzle clubs or a long, quiet evening.

Printing

Print one per page, ideally on a laser printer, or download the PDF for larger paper. Each has a separate solution sheet.
