About extra large mazes

What they are

Extra-large mazes are our biggest: 40 × 40 grids with sixteen hundred cells and routes that wander across the entire page. They are built for long, absorbing sessions of twenty minutes to an hour, and the hard versions surround the true path with clusters of convincing false turns.

How to play

Treat an extra-large maze like a map. Find Start and Finish, then look for the big structural walls and the few gaps that cross them. Draw the route lightly first; once you are sure, go over it in a darker pen or a highlighter.

Tips

Divide the sheet into quarters and solve one section at a time. Patience beats speed here: a single wrong turn near the start can cost ten minutes, so check each fork before committing.

Who they suit

These mazes are aimed at teenagers and adults, dedicated maze fans and anyone who finds a long, quiet puzzle relaxing. They also make a satisfying challenge for a determined ten- or eleven-year-old.

Printing

Print one per page on standard paper; the fine corridors look sharpest on a laser printer. Download the PDF if you want to print at a copy shop on larger paper.
