About medium countries word search puzzles
What they are
Medium countries word searches add diagonals to across and down. GERMANY might slope towards the bottom right and VIETNAM might climb towards the top right, while every country reads forwards and keeps to its own squares.
How to play
Try four directions from each first letter: across, down and both forward diagonals. Ticking each country off on a printed map as you go turns the puzzle into a world tour.
Tips
Look for countries with rare letters, such as the Z in BRAZIL or the J in JAMAICA. DENMARK and FINLAND are both on the list, so scan for the Nordic names together.
Who they suit
These suit eight- to twelve-year-olds, social-studies classes, and curious travellers of any age. Geography teachers often ask students to group the countries they find by continent once the grid is done, which turns a ten-minute puzzle into a revision activity.
