About classic crosswords
What they are
The classic crossword is the full 15×15 grid, the same size as a traditional newspaper puzzle. With 76 to 78 clues and long answers stretching across the board, it is a proper afternoon project: thirty to sixty minutes for most solvers, longer if you go for the hard set.
How to play
Treat it like a newspaper puzzle. Skim every clue, write in the gimmes, then build outward from wherever the grid is busiest. The symmetrical pattern of black squares means a stuck corner is never far from a corner you have already filled.
Tips
Keep a pencil handy and do not be afraid to write a guess lightly. Fill-in-the-blank clues are usually the easiest way in. If you stall, step away for ten minutes; long answers often click on the second look.
Who they suit
Classic grids are built for dedicated crossword fans, adults who miss the daily paper puzzle, and keen teenage word lovers. They make a good shared puzzle for two people at a kitchen table.
Printing
Print one classic crossword per page; the grid and clues are laid out for A4 and US Letter. A separate answer sheet lets one person check while another solves.
