Puzzle guide
About easy animal word search puzzles
What they are
Easy animal word searches hide every creature reading left to right or straight down, never backwards and never crossing another word. The twenty puzzles rotate between 10×10, 15×15 and 20×20 grids, so you can choose a short safari or a longer expedition.
How to play
Pick an animal from the list, think about its first letter, and scan each row for it. When you find the letter, check the squares to its right and below; that is the only place the rest of the name can be.
Tips
Begin with the giants of the list, ELEPHANT and GIRAFFE, whose long letter runs are easy to see. Leave three-letter animals such as FOX and PIG for last, when fewer letters are left to search.
Who they suit
This level suits children from about six who can read animal names on their own, as well as adults who want a relaxing puzzle with no surprises.
Printing
Print a 10×10 grid for quick solvers or a 20×20 for a longer zoo-day activity. The answer key shows every animal ringed.
