About animals crosswords
What they are
Animal crosswords fill the grid with creatures from the farm, the forest and the sea: BADGER, COYOTE, DOLPHIN, BISON and plenty more. There are three quick minis and three 9×9 grids, with clues that describe where an animal lives or what it does rather than just naming it.
How to play
Read a clue, count the squares, and write the creature that fits. Crossing letters do the rest: if a four-letter mammal ends in R and starts with the B from a crossing answer, BEAR is the obvious pick.
Tips
Clues often mention a habitat or a sound, so think 'what lives there?' or 'who makes that noise?'. Short answers such as ANT, APE, BAT and COW are common in minis, which makes them a fast way to unlock crossings.
