About medium animal word search puzzles
What they are
Medium animal word searches add diagonals to the mix. A PENGUIN might slope down to the right, or a KANGAROO climb up to the right, as well as running across or down. Words still always read forwards, and they never overlap.
How to play
Find the first letter of an animal, then look in all four forward directions: right, down, down-right and up-right. Tracing the diagonal with a finger stops your eyes from slipping onto the wrong row.
Tips
Diagonal words are easier to see if you tilt the page slightly. Animals with doubled letters, such as SHEEP, PARROT and RABBIT, show a pair that stands out on a slant.
Who they suit
Medium grids suit eight- to twelve-year-olds who have mastered the easy level, and parents who want something a little more absorbing than across-and-down.
Printing
Print two smaller animal puzzles per sheet for a classroom early-finisher tray, or a single large grid for a longer quiet time.
