About large mazes

What they are

Large mazes are 30 × 30 grids packed with turns, forks and blind alleys. With nine hundred cells there is room for a genuinely long route, and the hard versions hide it among dozens of decoy branches. Expect ten to thirty minutes of solving per maze.

How to play

Scan the whole sheet before you start. Look for long walls that cut the maze in half; the route has to find a gap through each one, which narrows down where to go. Then trace in pencil, marking dead ends with a small cross as you rule them out.

Tips

Work from both ends at once and aim for the middle, where the two halves of the route meet. Blocking off obvious dead-end pockets with a quick scribble shrinks the maze dramatically.

Who they suit

Large mazes suit older children from about nine, teenagers and adults who enjoy settling into a puzzle. They work well for long car journeys, sick days and a calm screen-free evening.

Printing

Print large mazes one per page so the corridors stay wide enough to draw through comfortably. Each has a separate solution sheet for checking.
