About medium food word search puzzles

What they are

Medium food word searches let dishes run diagonally as well as across and down. A SANDWICH might slope down to the right while a BANANA climbs towards the top right corner. Every word still reads forwards, and no two foods share a square.

How to play

Locate a food's first letter, then test four routes: along the row, down the column, and both forward diagonals. Laying a ruler along a slant is a handy trick when the letters start to blur.

Tips

BANANA's repeated AN pattern is easy to follow on a diagonal. Look for fruit with distinctive letters, such as the W in STRAWBERRY or the Y in YOGURT, and remember that NOODLES has a double O that catches the eye.

Who they suit

These puzzles suit eight- to twelve-year-olds, after-school cooking clubs, and families who solve together over a slow weekend breakfast.

Printing

Print a pair of 15×15 food puzzles on one sheet so two children can race to clear the menu first, then swap and check each other with the answer key.
