About color word search puzzles

What they are

Color word searches go far beyond the rainbow. Alongside RED, BLUE and GREEN you will hunt for TURQUOISE, MAGENTA, CRIMSON, SAPPHIRE, LILAC and AMBER, from a list of 47 shades, gems and metals.

How to play

Find each color on the list in the grid and shade it in with a crayon of that color once you spot it. By the end, the grid becomes a patchwork of everything you have found.

Tips

Short colors like RED, TAN and GOLD overlap with other words, so look for them carefully. Unusual letter combinations such as the QU in TURQUOISE or the Z in AZURE are quick to spot.

Who they suit

Color puzzles suit early readers learning color names, art lessons, ESL classes and anyone who has argued over whether teal is blue or green. Art teachers like them as a calm start to a lesson on mixing paint.

Printing

Print in black and white so children can color the found words themselves. Answer keys print separately.
